What is a Digital Learning Community, Anyway???

What is a Digital Learning Community, Anyway???

A digital learning community is a place where basically anyone can join and learn about subjects and information they are already interested in or would like to learn more about.  There are probably as many digital learning communities as there are topics of interest.  These groups open up a whole new window of learning opportunities for young and old, students and educators alike!

I explored quite a few communities as I completed this quest and bookmarked the following sites in my https://delicious.com account:

I chose these groups because I felt like they provided the best educational match for the subjects and areas I am interested in.  As an educator, I always welcome the opportunity to learn more about the areas I teach as well as the areas I am interested in personally.  I appreciated the fact that their home pages looked organized and invoked an immediate interest in wanting to find out more!  For my benefit, as well as the benefit of my students, I appreciated the fact that these groups are free to join.

The group I chose to join was edWeb.  I was very impressed with the number of sub-groups it provided and the numerous Professional Development and corroboration opportunities it will likely provide.  I feel confident that I will benefit greatly from my involvement with edWeb.  It is well organized and easy to navigate.

What can Digital Citizens do to make DLC's easier to join and more appealing to our students?

An organized, easy to navigate site will always be beneficial no matter what the subject or topic of the community. Make it look like a place where student would enjoy learning!  I would recommend that many of these groups are already doing it right!  I am looking forward to utlizing these communities as well as my bookmarking site.
