How do communication practices in the online environment correlate to effective feedback?
The more thorough and completely you communicate to your stakeholders, the better and more effective your feedback will become. It is also easier to grasp and accept feedback from an educator who has fully explained and communicated their expectations for an assignment. Like any relationship, communication is a critical part of its success or failure.
Why is authentic feedback important for online learners?
Interaction with online learners is more limited than that of a traditional brick and mortar classroom. Authenticity is critical, every time and all the time, in order to establish a rapport and personal relationship with each student and their facilitator. In this way, students will have a better understanding of what you expect from them for each assignment.
In what ways might an instructor enrich a student’s online experience through feedback?
Feedback is a great way to assist in establishing personal connections within the online environment. Commenting specifically on what a student wrote about and reflecting upon it shows that you took the time to really "pay attention" and learn a little more about the student than just going through the motion of posting a grade. Sometimes those words of encouragement or even respectful constructive correction go a long way!
